Arapahoe Ridge HANDBOOK

Dress Code
The building dress code is designed to maintain a safe environment and a proper atmosphere for learning throughout the school day. It is assumed that clothing which may be acceptable for younger children may not be appropriate for older students.
  • Shorts, skirts, and dresses must be fingertip length
  • Pants should not "sag"
  • Tops must cover the midriff and chest areas
  • Hats may not be worn inside school
  • Apparel promoting (or which suggests) sex, drugs, violence, gang activity, alcohol, or tobacco will not be allowed at school or any school function
  • Safe School Policy (detailed in your Parent/Student Handbook)
Basic guidelines state that no student be permitted to wear any professionally licensed athletic apparel while in school. This policy also includes any type of clothing that would represent advocacy of alcohol, tobacco, drug use, violence, religious, gender, ethnic or racial intimidation or other criminal activity.

P.E. Attire
It is with the safety of all children in mind that we ask your child to wear appropriate footwear and clothing while in P.E. class. Sandals, thongs, and high heeled shoes can be hazardous to your child while doing various physical education activities. Girls wearing dresses or skirts are asked to wear shorts under their clothing to protect their privacy.

We also ask that no black-soled shoes be worn while in the gymnasium. Black-soled shoes leave marks which are difficult to remove.

Visitor/Parent Check-In
Colorado State Law requires all visitors to the building to sign in at the office. You will be given a visitor badge to wear in the building to identify yourself. Parents are encouraged to visit their children at any time. We ask that you do not bring younger siblings into the classroom as they can distract from the learning environment.

Early Departure From School
Students who must leave school during regular school hours must be signed out through the office by a parent/guardian or designated representative. A child may not be called from class until someone has came in and signed him/her out. Students may not leave school alone during school hours.

Clinic Information
If your child becomes ill or injured at school and needs immediate care, you will be contacted as soon as possible. It is imperative the office and clinic have current phone numbers where you can be reached in the event of an emergency. A designated adult must come and sign the child out and accompany him/her home. Your child may not be sent home alone.

Regular attendance at school is extremely important but your child should not be sent to school when he/she is truly ill. A student will be sent home if he/she has a temperature of 100ƒ or above or if he/she has symptoms that are representative of any communicable disease.

Medication
If students must take prescription medication during the school day, written instructions and authorization must be provided by the student's physician. We cannot give aspirin, Tylenol, cough drops, or any other over-the-counter medication unless prescribed by a physician. All medication must be in original container, properly labeled with the name of the pharmacy, patient's name, doctor's name, and dosage clearly marked. ALL MEDICATION MUST BE KEPT IN THE CLINIC.

Inclement Weather
During the winter months, please see that your child dresses properly with a coat, mittens, hat, and boots. Children will have outside recess unless the temperature is below 20ƒ (including wind chill) or there is measurable precipitation. Children will need to participate in outside activities unless they have a note from their doctor.

School Cancellation
In the rare event of a school closures, information is available on local television and radio stations. Please listen for announcements concerning Adams 12 Five Star School.

Before and After School Supervision
There is no supervision for students before 8:45 a.m. or after 3:30 p.m. (2:15 p.m. on Weds). If students are dropped off prior or remain later than these times, they will be taken to the BASE program and you will be charged a fee for this service.

Lost and Found
Each year, hundreds of articles of clothing are left unclaimed. Many children cannot identify what they have lost. Please label coats, mittens, hats, boots, etc. A lost and found box is located in the cafeteria.

Valuables at School
We highly discourage students to bring valuable (and toys) to school. Items having value for one individual usually have an attractive appeal for others and unfortunately sometimes disappear. The school cannot be responsible for these items.

Bicycles
Many students enjoy riding their bicycles to school. For the safety of all students, please walk your bike when you are on school property. Make sure to lock your bike up tightly in the bike racks.

Lunch Program
Our school lunch program records are computerized. Each child is assigned a personal ID number. There will be a NO CHARGE policy. If a child forgets his/her lunch money, he/she will be provided with a roll, vegetable, and milk. Please make arrangements to pay in advance if you do not want your child to accept this consequence. If you have any questions regarding the school lunch program please contact the cafeteria at (720) 972-5751.
