Meet Mrs. Voorhees

My educational philosophy

Most importantly I want the classroom to be a place where children feel safe to learn.  I stress the importance of a learning community and recognize that learning is a social and developmental process. Cooperation and respect are key components to building this community.

I believe that all students learn in their own way and at their own pace.  I make every effort to meet the needs of each student and give them the support they need to become independent learners.

Experience and Education

I have taught at Arapahoe Ridge since it opened in 1998 and have taught both third and fifth grade.  Before Arapahoe opened, I taught first and second grade at Cherry Drive Elementary.

I completed a MasterŐs Degree, with an emphasis in Literacy, at the University of Colorado.  I love to share my enthusiasm for books with my students.

Family and Personal

Colorado has been my home for 25 years, but I was born next door in Utah. My husband and I have also lived in Alaska, Hawaii, and Massachusetts. I have a son, who is a junior at Western State College in Gunnison, and a stepdaughter and stepson, and four grandchildren.

We are a close family and enjoy doing many things together – skiing, travel, four wheeling, and huge family gatherings, especially on Bronco Sundays.
