BEHAVIOR EXPECTATIONS

Individual Rewards and Consequences:

I use the color card system in my classroom. Each child begins the day on blue. This means they are having a great day and making great choices. If the student is not following a rule, he or she may be asked to turn their card to green. A green card is a visual reminder that they need to make better choices or change their behavior. If a student continues to not follow the rules he or she will be asked to change their card to yellow. This is another warning to the child that he or she needs to make better choices. The last card to be turned is a red card. At this point the student will be asked to take a 5 minute time out. I do not like to take recess away from students, but will if behavior is extreme. If a student receives a red card, I will send home a red card to be signed by the parent that night. If the card is not returned and signed with a parentŐs signature the following day, I will call home.

A star card is given to a few students per day. Students receive star cards for excellent behavior and for setting a good example. When the student has received 5 star cards, he or she can choose a reward from the treasure chest.

A studentŐs cards can move between colors throughout the day.

WHOLE CLASS REWARDS

When the class is on task as a whole, I will put a few marbles into the classroom marble jar. I let the class vote on what they would like as their reward. They also choose a time frame as to when they believe they can achieve this goal. When the marble jar is, full they receive their reward. It could be lunch with the teacher, 10 minutes of free time, cookies, etcÉ
